1968-1977年下鄉(xiāng)插隊和在工廠勞動；1984-1986年國家城鄉(xiāng)建設(shè)環(huán)境保護(hù)部-中國社會科學(xué)院中國建設(shè)經(jīng)濟(jì)研究所從事城市與區(qū)域經(jīng)濟(jì)研究；1986-1992年University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill，城市與區(qū)域規(guī)劃系，助研，碩士課教師；1990年世界銀行合同咨詢員；1992-1993年University of North Carolina, Center for Economic Development；1993-1994年香港城市理工學(xué)院助理教授；1997-2006年美國First Union和Wachovia銀行，歷任經(jīng)濟(jì)師、高級經(jīng)濟(jì)師、經(jīng)濟(jì)研究部主任、Senior Vice President；2006—2014 “985”工程湖南大學(xué)基地首席專家。
