材料科學與工程學院現(xiàn)有金屬材料工程（國際工程教育認證專業(yè)、國家重點專業(yè)）、高分子材料與工程（國家重點專業(yè)、省一流專業(yè)）、無機非金屬材料工程（國際工程教育認證專業(yè)、省一流專業(yè)）、材料成型及控制工程（國際工程教育認證專業(yè)）四個本科專業(yè)，學院設(shè)有材料分析測試中心、實驗中心、工程實踐中心以及20多個研究室（所）。現(xiàn)有教職工106人，其中新世紀百千萬人才工程國家級人選1人，龍江學者2人，省杰青2人，博士生導師24人，碩士生導師77人。目前在校本科生1700多人，研究生380多人。
學院擁有材料科學與工程一級學科博士學位授予權(quán)和博士后科研流動站，材料學、材料加工工程、材料物理與化學、高分子化學與物理（理學）、高電壓與絕緣技術(shù)（新型絕緣材料方向）5個學科具有碩士學位授予權(quán)，以及材料與化工領(lǐng)域工程碩士授予權(quán)。擁有軍用關(guān)鍵材料國防特色學科、材料科學與工程省級重點學科、國家級工程教育中心、先進制造智能化技術(shù)教育部重點實驗室、黑龍江省輕金屬材料改性與綠色成型技術(shù)重點實驗室、黑龍江省鋁鎂合金材料（校企共建）重點實驗室、黑龍江省輕合金材料（校企共建）工程技術(shù)研究中心、材料研究與應用省高校重點實驗室、材料科學與工程省級研究生培養(yǎng)實踐示范基地等平臺。 
學院擁有良好的教學、科研、工程訓練條件，大型儀器設(shè)備有透射電鏡、掃描電鏡、X射線衍射儀、FT-IR光譜儀、熱重及差示掃描量熱儀、直讀光譜儀、數(shù)碼金相顯微鏡、凝膠滲透色譜儀等。2015年以來學院承擔科技部重點研發(fā)計劃、國家自然科學基金項目24項。承擔項目合同總額7500多萬元，發(fā)表SCI論文300余篇，授權(quán)發(fā)明專利120余件，獲得省級二等獎6項、三等獎4項。
學院重視與國內(nèi)外高等學校、科研院所、大型企業(yè)集團（公司）的學術(shù)交流與合作。同加拿大女王大學、美國加州大學、英國謝菲爾德大學、日本京都大學、日本新澙工科大學、澳大利亞昆士蘭大學、韓國蔚山大學、哈爾濱工業(yè)大學、機械科學研究院、哈爾濱焊接研究所、中國航發(fā)哈爾濱東安發(fā)動機公司、長春第一汽車集團公司、齊齊哈爾一重、齊齊哈爾鐵路車輛（集團）有限責任公司、東輕公司等單位建立了良好的合作關(guān)系。
 
The School of Material Science & Engineering  
    The School of Material Science & Engineering offers 4 bachelor-degree programs, namely Metal Materials Engineering (national key specialty), Macromolecule Materials Engineering (national key specialty), Inorganic Non-metal Material Engineering (provincial key specialty), Materials Forming and Controlling Engineering (provincial key specialty). It also includes Material Analysis and Testing Center, experimental center, engineering practice center and more than 20 research groups. There are 106 staffs, including 1 New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project, 2 Distinguished Young Scholars of Heilongjiang, 2 Longjiang scholars, 24 doctoral supervisors and 77 master supervisors. There are more than 1700 undergraduates and 380 graduate students.
    The School offers the doctoral degree program and post-doctor research program in the discipline of material science & engineering, as well as 5 master-degree programs: material science, material processing engineering, material physics and chemistry, macromolecule chemistry and physics, high-voltage and insulation technology (new insulation material oriented), and the engineering master-degree program in materials and chemical engineering. There are some platforms, such as the national defense characteristic discipline of “military critical materials”, the provincial key discipline of “materials science and engineering”, National Engineering Practice Education Center, Key Laboratory of Advanced Manufacturing and Intelligent Technology, Ministry of Education, Heilongjiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Light Metal Materials Modification & Green Forming Technology, Heilongjiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Aluminum & Magnesium Alloy Materials, Heilongjiang Provincial Engineering Research Center of Light Alloy Materials, Heilongjiang Provincial University Key Laboratory of Materials Development & Application, Heilongjiang Provincial Innovation Practice Demonstration Base for Materials Science and Engineering Graduate Training, and so on.
    The School has the excellent facilities for teaching, research and engineering practice. It has some valuable instruments and equipment such as TEM, SEM，XRD, FTIR, TGA, DSC, OES, digital metallurgical microscope, GPC an so on. Since 2015, it has undertaken 75 million RMB scientific research projects, published 300 papers indexed by SCI, got 120 invention patents, gained 6 second prizes and 4 third prizes of provincial-level science and technology reward.
    The School lays emphasis on the academic exchanges and cooperation with other universities and institutes both at home and abroad. It has established good partnership with Queen's University, University of California at Berkeley, The University of Sheffield, Kyoto University, Niigata Institute of Technology, Queensland University, University of Ulsan, Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin Welding Institute, First Automobile Works Group, Qiqihar Locomotives Ltd., Northern Light Alloy Company Ltd., Harbin Hafei Automobile Industry Group Company Ltd., and so on.
